When you hear about the word “cheerleader” people usually associate a cheerleader as a preppy stereotype. However, I can tell you personally, we aren’t preppy, mean and dumb. As a Beyer cheerleader we are involved and smart. We are committed and spirited.

Cheer begins with try-outs. Try outs are in April, it’s a nerve racking week. Learning a new dance and cheer in 2 days. Then the big day, try outs. After finding out you made the team or not. Dream crushes and dreams come true. The season then begins, meetings, fittings, fundraising. Our actual season begins during the summer. With many summer practices. Learning rally, dance and cheers. It’s a fun process getting to know your teammates and coach, considering you are going to be stuck with them almost the whole year.

Our first appearance is the first day of school and our season is in full swing. It’s a big day with news casts and new students. It’s the first time in our new uniforms, poms, and shoes. After that a week later we have ‘Welcome Back Rally’. We perform and cheer every Friday at the football game. At times our day doesn’t end till close to 11pm. We have practices every week for at least 3 days a week.

After football season and two rallies, we go straight to basketball season. Believe it or not it’s an even busier season. We have games twice a week and have practice twice a week. On top of that we have a rally to learn. Sometimes if we have a good season, like last year 2017, we went to playoffs! It was a very exciting year! Between the hustle and bustle there is much laughter and love. Cheer might not be for everyone however, it’s a very special and fun team and sport to be a part of.
